The Prime Minister addressed the emergence of circulating videos promoting cryptocurrency scams, cautioning the public against falling victim to deceptive schemes. Notably, Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong has also been targeted in similar incidents.

Deepfake technology, employing artificial intelligence, has been used to manipulate voices and images, creating convincing but entirely fabricated videos. An example includes an altered video featuring Prime Minister Lee in an interview discussing a fictitious government-sanctioned investment platform linked to Elon Musk. The deceptive nature of these videos raises concerns about their potential impact on public trust and financial security.

Prime Minister Lee took to Facebook to officially address the deepfake videos. In his statement, he strongly discouraged the public from responding to scam videos promising guaranteed returns or ‘giveaways.’ Instead, he urged individuals to report such scams and fake news through the government’s ScamShield Bot on WhatsApp, emphasizing the importance of collective vigilance against fraudulent activities.
