According to Goldman Sachs, the Metaverse has received billions of dollars in investment. The market size is potentially around $12 trillion globally.

Now it has been reported that Europe’s first Metaverse-themed exchange-traded (ETF) has been listed on the London Stock Exchange. It is the ETC Group Global Metaverse UCITS ETF (METR). This ETF is now available for sale all across Europe.

METR is the second themed exchange-traded fund (ETF) that is a result of a collaboration between ETC Group and HANetf.

The ETC Group develops cryptocurrency-backed securities, whereas HANetf independently provides UCITS ETFs.

As per reports, the exchange-traded fund will keep a track of the Solactive ETC Group Global Metaverse Index. At the moment, this is offering exposure to nearly 51 companies that are active in the Metaverse industry.

These companies are engaged in various areas in the Metaverse that include:

  • 3D graphics
  • Blockchain technologies including NFTs
  • Online gaming
  • Related cloud and data storage
  • Semiconductors
  • Video streaming
  • VR/AR
  • Wireless communications

Due to this announcement, the London Stock Exchange now joins a global trend where the exchanges are launching their first Metaverse-themed ETFs.

The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong also reportedly launched its ETF last month.
