  • Bitcoin reached its highest-ever value at $106,147 on December 17th, 2024, more than doubling its market value from a year earlier
  • Analysts have varying predictions for 2025, with some expecting Bitcoin to reach or even surpass $200,000
  • Supportive U.S. regulations and institutional investments could further boost Bitcoin's value in 2025

In 2024, Bitcoin had one of its most profitable years in history. During that time, the world’s largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization reached its highest-ever value at $106,147 on December 17th.

This more-than-stellar performance by the currency has led many to wonder about how far can Bitcoin go in this new year. While claiming that the $200,000 milestone seems a bit far-fetched, some analysts believe that Bitcoin at $200k in 2025 is not out of the picture.

In truth, the market-leading crypto has had a similar performance in 2024, growing over two times its initial value from December 31, 2023. In that timeframe, the asset gained an incredible 116% in value, effectively more than doubling its market value.

CNBC recently published an article interviewing several key analysts in the industry to see what they anticipate BTC value to be one year from now. While some analysts were more on the pragmatic side like James Butterfill who believes the asset could range from $80,000 to $150,000 this year, the majority of responses believe the currency will either reach close–or even surpass the $200,000 mark.

Analysts Pick Bitcoin at $200,000 in 2025

Carol Alexander, professor of finance at the University of Sussex expects BTC to be worth over $200,000 in a year’s time, reasoning that the new presidency in the United States will lead to more crypto-supportive regulations in the nation, which would then boost liquidity into the market.

Geoffrey Kendrick of Standard Chartered also believes the world’s largest crypto will double in value this year. He reasons that institutional investments have already resulted in Bitcoin inflows of over 683,000 BTC—and that Bitcoin will see a boost in liquidity from the U.S. Government’s plan of adding the digital asset as reserves in areas like pension funds.

Sid Powell, CEO of Maple Finance draws a comparison to Gold ETFs, and how they continued to see inflows in the subsequent years after its creation. He also claims that the currency’s potential as a reserve of value for governments could cement Bitcoin as “a core asset allocation for institutional asset managers.”

Elitsa Taskova, CPO at crypto lending platform “Nexo” was the most bullish analyst in the piece. She also mentions Bitcoin reserves, institutional interest, and growing social markers as the reason for the bullish year. Also, Taskova claims that the Fed’s balancing act and the potential decrease in interests, while inflation remains steady, could also be a reason for Bitcoin to hit $250,000 in 2025.
