Chainlink launches CCIP v1.6 with Solana support, along with the potential to integrate and scale to other non-EVM blockchains, reduced execution costs, and architectural improvements for scalable cross-chain interoperability.
More on CCIP v1.6, Solana Support, and Its Importance for the Entire Web3 Infrastructure
We recently discussed CCIP v1.5 and its critical importance for the Web3 infrastructure, and now we have a reason to talk about CCIP v1.6, which is even more important. Chainlink presented CCIP v1.6 as a major strategic step, and by expanding the protocol’s reach beyond the EVM ecosystem, it enabled developers using the Cross-Chain Token (CCT) standard to deploy compatible tokens in the Solana environment.
Since the Solana ecosystem is actively developing and has long become a strong competitor to Ethereum, this choice is expected and automatically includes Solv, Backed Finance, Shiba Inu, The Graph, Pepe, ElizaOS, Maple Finance, Zeus Network, and others. Among Solana’s infrastructure integrators are Interport and XSwap, with OpenOcean and Transporter expected to join.

But this is not the only important update introduced by CCIP v1.6—there are also general architectural improvements aimed at increasing resilience and efficiency. Specifically, CCIP v1.6 moves to a chain-based architecture, in which all chains on v1.6 automatically become interoperable, minimizes on-chain footprint and reduces complexity for node operators. Batch execution of messages from different source chains significantly reduces execution costs on destination chains, especially under scalable traffic from DeFi and institutional participants. The updated VM-agnostic architecture also allows CCIP to scale independently of virtual machine types, including existing and future non-EVM designs.
Conclusion
Chainlink continues to make infrastructure-level developments and clearly has very long-term strategic prospects that promise foundational improvements for the entire Web3. How important this really is right now or might turn out to be later may vary in opinion, but I definitely wouldn’t underestimate their contribution.
