Sony Plans US Stablecoin for Gaming and Anime
Sony is taking a bold step into crypto, and honestly, it feels like one of those moments where gaming and blockchain finally meet in a real way.
The company is preparing to launch a US dollar stablecoin next year, designed for purchases across its digital ecosystem. Think games, subscriptions, anime, all running through a native stablecoin instead of credit cards.
If you have ever paid for a PlayStation subscription and watched random fees quietly stack up, you probably get why this move makes sense.
Sony wants to cut the middleman costs and keep users inside its own flow. And with the GENIUS Act giving stablecoins a clear regulatory lane in the US, the timing is perfect.
Sony Bank has already filed for a US banking charter and partnered with Bastion to handle the stablecoin infrastructure. It is the classic setup before a big rollout. I had a similar feeling once when a platform shifted all payments to a closed loop system, and the experience became smoother overnight.
Will this reshape crypto adoption in gaming?
Hard to say, but the pieces are clearly aligning. And when a giant like Sony moves, the rest of the market tends to follow.
